Knitting pattern for a simple but attractive cardigan that can be knitted with a v-neck or round neck. It is knitted in 4 sizes, using the same pattern, but changing yarns. The tiniest size is in the finest yarn and the largest in the thickest, so the smaller the baby the finer the cardigan, which works perfectly. It can have little added pockets or flowers to make it a little bit more special.

Materials

Premature baby/14-15 inch doll/12 inch chest

75g 3-ply yarn (US:fingering)

Needles:  One pair of 3mm (UK 11) (no US equiv, use US 2/3) and one pair of  2.25 mm(UK 13)(US 1)

Newborn baby/16-18 inch doll/14 inch chest

100g of 4 ply yarn (US: sport)

Needles: One pair of 3.25 mm(UK 10)(US 3) and one pair of 2.75 mm(UK 12)(US 2)

0-3m baby/19-22 inch doll/16 inch chest

100g DK yarn (US: light worsted)

Needles: One pair of 3.75 mm (UK9) (US5) and one pair of 3mm (UK 11) (no US equiv, use US 3)

3-6m baby/23-26 inch doll/18 inch chest

150g aran yarn (US: worsted)

Needles: One pair of 5 mm(UK 6)(US 8) and one pair of 4mm (UK 8) (US 6)

Cable needle

Flowers require scraps of green, and any other colour of yarn in correct ply for size. For 3-6m size DK is fine; for prem size 4-ply is fine as it is easier to get colour variety
